This week as part of the science unit “Our Senses” we looked at all the things we can see. We made some crazy glasses that could not see, went for an observation walk and then wrote all about it during our writing time.

It’s Easter and time for a little holiday! We have been studying celebrations this term and we enjoyed sharing the fun of the hat parade with our friends and family! The Easter Bunny’s helpers came to visit and there were even a few celebratory chocolate eggs for everyone too!

This week for our talking and listening task everyone had to give an impromptu talk. We are given the topic and get just a few minutes to prepare. We find a partner and use “Think, Pair, Share” to help us get ready.

This is the sound of us preparing with our friends……….Think, Pair, Share

Some people talked about “If I were an animal I would be…..” or “My Favourite Food is….” or “When I grow up I’ll be….” It was good fun and everyone tried hard to do their best.

We use our portable PA so everyone can hear!

We enjoyed our first K-6 assembly this week. It was a special assembly celebrating all the many different cultures that make our school special. We wore mufti and some children wore their traditional costumes as well. We watched the lion dance, the Korean and Chinese dancers and the drums were very exciting too. You can see all the videos here http://www.eastwood.nsw.edu.au/category/on-show/

We are learning about celebrations in HSIE. On Tuesday, 12th February it was Pancake Tuesday so what better way to celebrate than to make some pancakes, actually little ones are called pikelets! There were lots of people wondering what the yummy smell was that came wafting out of our room…..and they were delicious to eat too!

It’s summer and time for us to have our long holiday. We had fun at our party. We went to the park, had some pizza and played and danced all day at school with our friends. We are now all grown up and have learnt lots of things and we are excited to be going to Year 1 in 2013!

MERRY XMAS and HAPPY HOLIDAYS EVERYONE!

We made paper chains using lots of different coloured paper. Can you see the patterns in our chains?

After comparing and measuring our chains with others in the class we joined all our chains together to make one long chain.

Our long chain

We wanted to know how long our chain was so we stretched it out across the playground.

It was REALLY long!

We measured our chain by walking along the length of the chain and counted how many footsteps we took from the start to the end.

Some of us counted 40 steps…

…some counted 47 steps…

…and others counted 51 steps!

Why? We think the reason for the difference is that some people took small steps and some people took longer steps.

Later we all held hands and stretched out along the chain. We discovered it takes 28 children holding hands to stretch from the start of the chain to the end.
