Our 5D buddies have been working hard writing stories for us. They read the story “Hatchet” by Gary Paulsen and then had to rewrite it as a picture book to share with their KW buddies. They drew pictures to help us understand the story and then read them to us. We liked to listen and look at their books.

We have been playing Beat the Box on our SmartBoard. There are nine letters and we all try to think of little words we can build using those letters. We have been getting better and this time we made 34 new words! The nine letters make one big mystery word and one day we’ll guess that too!

This is a 2011 Powerpoint. You might need to save it to your computer as an earlier version.

KM have been thinking of u words this week. We found that some u words say the sound like in umbrella and some say the letter name like in unicorn. We even found some words with the u in the middle of the word.

,

Do you know any more u words?

We read the big book Meanies by Joy Cowley. Meanies are a bit naughty, a bit dirty and sometimes a bit mean to each other but they are funny too. We will read the story to you!

KA have been learning about halves and how to find half of something.  We have folded and cut paper shapes in half to make 2 equal parts and this week we cut lamingtons in half.  We had to make sure we cut carefully so there were 2 equal parts.  The best part was when we got to eat them at the end!

KM made a picture graph of our favourite fruit. First we had to choose one fruit to be our favourite, even if we liked them all. We used tally marks to record our votes. Then we used pictures to make our graph.

.

Can you see the most popular fruit?

We have lots of different manipulatives we like to use for counting. We like to play games because it makes learning fun!

Sometimes the letter G says ‘g’ like in our giraffes that we drew but often it says ‘g’ as in gate.  We added the gates to our alphabet art book but you have to open the gate to see who’s there!

The Smartboard is so clever it can record everything you write or draw and make its own movies so we followed the instructions and copied the giraffe drawing into our books!
