As Spring Fair is on this Saturday, the rides and other equipment will be arriving at school towards the end of the week. Your child should be under your care and supervision after school each day, but it will be particularly important on Thursday and Friday as there will be trucks and cars moving through the playground. If you are not involved in the setup of Spring Fair, for your safety and the safety of your children, please make sure you leave the school grounds straight after school.
We had a visit from Marsden High School students last week to act as peer tutors. They worked with our students on Lego robotics – programming the robots to play music, following set paths and performing simple tasks. The students are hoping we can return the visit later in the term to share more information and knowledge.
Transition to High School
Dear Year 4 and 5 Parents,
A reminder that the Principal & Parents Morning Tea (PPMT) is this Thursday 24th August in the school library. Presentations begin at 9 30am.
Transition to High School
Most children are excited “and just a little bit nervous” about making the transition from primary school to high school. They already have a reasonable idea of what to expect thanks to the hard work done by high schools. As parents, it’s our job to support, guide and understand our children as they make the transition. There will be butterflies in stomachs on Day One (your children might have them as well!). But with your support, most children will make the adjustment to the bigger environment, an expanded circle of friends, an enlarged and more independent workload, and new opportunities, in a relatively short period of time. (www.kidspot.com.au/school/secondary 2013 )
Our goal for the morning is to provide you access to greater knowledge about the local high schools and the programs that Eastwood Public School offer to support our senior students during this transition in their education.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Mrs J. Eadie
Relieving Deputy Principal
Woolworths Earn and Learn
The Woolworths earn and learn program is in progress. Please show your support by collecting stickers from Woolworths. Get your child(ren) to give their sticker sheets to their class teachers or just put the stickers in the box outside 5/6S, Mrs Sparrow’s classroom in Q block.
Our points will be helping out our local community groups.
So far we have collected 3720 stickers.
Diary Design Competition
In Term 2, Year 5 students were invited to enter a competition to design a 2018 diary cover. This popular diary is used by many schools Australia wide. We would like to congratulate Daniel Song from 5G who has received an Honourable Mention for his entry. Daniel’s design will be featured on the back cover of the diary and his name will be credited on the inside cover. Well done Daniel for this fantastic achievement!
We are excited to announce that over the coming weeks we will be completing a trial with RagTagd, http://www.ragtagd.com/ a company that helps parents find lost property at school. We are looking to manage the ever growing pile of discarded clothing and end ongoing costs to parents and frustration for everyone. There is no cost involved to participate in the trial.
Whenever your Smart Tagged garment reaches lost property, you will receive an automated SMS (text message) notifying you that it’s there, making retrieval quick and easy.
On Friday 1st September, RagTagd will provide us with a seamstress who will stitch labels onto clothing. Only school jumpers and jackets will be labelled. Please complete the permission ‘to tag’ note and return to your child’s teacher. You are welcome to bring any school jumpers or jackets you wish to have labelled. Leave them in the hall, with permission label taped to the bag, between 8.40-9.10. The labels will be attached during the day and bags returned to children’s classes.
Each label has a code which you activate by texting to the company’s phone number. If your child’s clothes are handed into lost property you will receive an automated SMS. Further details re pickups will be explained when the trial commences. Please click here to download the permission note to be involved in the trial.
Well done to the Senior B netball girls that made the winter PSSA Grand Final last week. Unfortunately the girls lost by 1 point. It is an exceptional effort to make a Grand Final and all students involved should feel particularly proud of their achievements this season.
