Student safety should always be our first priority. While we are working with your children to make them safe users of our roads, we urge parents to do the same by using the traffic lights and pedestrian crossings when crossing the road. We have also had emails from Eastwood residents, about students’ unsafe behaviour while walking to and from school. Please take a moment to talk with your child about the most appropriate route to walk home and the safe methods of crossing the road. We will be talking to your children as well.

Congratulations to Rachel (2J) and Phylis (2L). They are our first students in 2017 to gain a Gold Award for their outstanding effort across the curriculum.

You may have noticed a few improvements to our playground. New tables, sand pits nearing completion, pirate ships, gardens and a new deck for students to sit and eat their lunch or just sit and chat. There have also been some more but hidden improvements to the student toilets. These improvements are just a few examples of the P&C Voluntary Contributions at work for the benefit of all students.

Pirate boat Senior B Netball

Our Senior B Netball team has made it into the PSSA Winter competition finals. We wish the girls the very best of luck. Win, lose or draw on Friday, we very proud of your effort and achievement.

Our Interschool Chess Competition final was held last week against Ermington Public School. Our team of Aarav, Daryl, Marcos and Bailey played exceptionally well but unfortunately were not able to secure a win. Well done team, on making it to the finals and being great representatives of Eastwood PS and your families.

Please see the attached Spring Fair Week 5 newsletter for all the latest information regarding the Spring Fair.

Lost Property
We are excited to announce that over the coming weeks we will be completing a trial with RagTagd, a company that helps parents find lost property at school. We are looking to manage the ever growing pile of discarded clothing and end ongoing costs to parents and frustration for everyone.

Whenever your Smart Tagged garment reaches lost property, you will receive an automated SMS (text message) notifying you that it’s there, making retrieval quick and easy. In fact, collection is so simple that 90% of families using RagTagd at other schools recover their lost property within a day of receiving an SMS.

You will soon receive further information explaining how you can be part of the trial for this innovative solution.

Term 3 Principal and Parents Morning Tea
Dear Parents of Students in Years 4 and 5,

I would like to extend a warm invitation for you to join us on Thursday 24th August at 9.30am in our school library for our Principal and Parents morning tea (PPMT). This term our morning information session will be focusing on our local public high schools and what they have to offer our students upon their completion of Year 6.

Each high school in our area has activities and curriculum highlights that would be appealing to many of our students and we will appreciate the opportunity to hear more about the programs that are pertinent to the various schools.

You will hear a brief presentation from some of the local high schools, including information such as their location, enrolment numbers and the various sporting, music and extracurricular opportunities available.

This valuable information may help you make important decisions about your child’s further educational possibilities in the public system.

We look forward to seeing you there.

Mrs J. Eadie
Deputy Principal (R)
