Writers festivalSydney Writers’ Festival

On Monday, 16th of May, Year 6 attended the Sydney Writer’s Festival at the Riverside Theatre. Felice Arena was the MC. We listened to Jon Klassen-author of the ‘This is not my hat’ series. He explained how we were supposed to write an amazing book series and we had lots of fun! Liz Pichon was the next author who entertained us. She is the author of the Tom Gates series. Tohby Riddle was the 3rd author we saw. Tohby is a fantastic author and illustrator who is also the editor of The School Magazine. Finally, we watched Judith Rossell and learnt lots about the Victorian era. Year 6 had lots of fun and really enjoyed the day!

Lost Property

There are many items of lost property to be claimed. Lost property is currently kept in the store area on the lower floor of A Block, near the Kindergarten classrooms. It would be helpful if all children’s clothes and possessions were clearly labelled with their name and 2016 class. Weather permitting, all lost property will be placed under the Jacaranda tree this Thursday, 2/6 for collection.

Athletics Carnival

This Thursday, 2nd June, is the school’s Athletics Carnival at Auburn Athletics Track (Wyatt Park). All children who turn 8 this year in Year 2 and all children in Years 3 to 6 are expected to attend.
Children should wear their sports uniform, with a house-coloured top (if they have one); bring food, drink, sunscreen, wet weather gear and SOMETHING TO SIT ON.  Something quiet (eg a book) to do while waiting for events is also a good idea, but no electronic games are permitted. There will be NO canteen facilities available at the venue.
The wet weather back up date is Thursday 9th June.

Field Events

In the weeks following the carnival, field events try outs will be held during lunchtimes. The field event day will be held towards the end of term, weather and conditions permitting. Children need to listen carefully during assemblies to know when the various events are scheduled.

Zone Touch Football

Eastwood Public School had three students attend the Boys Zone Touch Football Trials on Thursday 26th May. The boys represented Eastwood well and one of the boys has been selected in the Zone team. Congratulations to George C. who will now play in the Zone team to try out for a place in the Regional Touch Football Team. We wish George all the best in his upcoming games.

Thank You

Uniform shop news
Fitting Day is next week, Tuesday 7th June. We will be open for fittings, sales and secondhand uniforms for sale. If you want to avoid the queues, please put in your mail order form, with either credit card details, or exact money in with your order form in a sealed envelope, and we will send out the uniforms to your child’s classroom on the following Tuesday. You can use these methods on any day, you don’t have to wait for the Fitting Day to order your uniforms.
We have some out of stock items – these include baseball jackets size 10 and 14, and skorts size 10. All items are on order but the jackets take 6-8 weeks to be in stock.
If you have any feedback, positive or constructive, or you would like to be trained to help at the Uniform Shop – we’d love to hear from you! We are particularly looking for people to train as cashiers and supervisors – no experience needed. Second languages always welcome, or come to improve your English!
